England’s North East is a rich and diverse region with an illustrious heritage.  It is also one of the most beautiful and unexplored regions in the UK, with mile upon mile of open countryside and golden coastlines.

There are three excursions, a visit to Vindolanda, a Roman Village, time in Durham before a leisurely drive through picturesque Weardale and entry to Alnwick Castle and Gardens with a tour of Northumbria's coastline afterwards.

What’s Included?

The deposit required at the time of booking for all holidays is £30 per person, full payment is required 28 days prior to departure.

Lying in magnificent countryside, next to a sweeping section of Hadrian’s Wall, is the most complete and extensive Roman Village in Britain – Vindolanda. See excavation work as it happens, explore the large site and museum with hundreds of Roman Artefacts. A short drive away is the Roman Army Museum, an authentic and dramatic tribute to Rome’s extraordinary military legacy. Three exciting galleries allow you to immerse yourself in the life of the Roman Army, explored through reconstructions, excavated objects and 3D film interpreting army life on the formidable Northern Frontier of Rome’s empire. Afterwards there is time free in the market town of Hexham.

Visit the two-thousand year old medieval city of Durham, regarded as ‘one of Europe’s great architectural experiences’, dominated by its cathedral. There will be time to delve into the history of this small city with its cobbled streets, boutiques, museums and castle. The day continues with a leisurely drive through picturesque Weardale, forming part of the Northern Pennines, an area of outstanding beauty.

Alnwick Castle

Visit Alnwick Castle, one of the largest, inhabited castles in Europe, with its leading contemporary gardens and beautiful stately rooms dating back seven hundred years. Afterwards, a delightful tour of Northumbria’s coast, through charming villages, then tide depending, a visit to Lindisfarne, recognised as the cradle of Christianity.
