Wheatlands Lodge Hotel, York (April only)
Ideally situated, just a short walk from the centre of York and close to many of its famous attractions. This family run hotel is comfortable and homely, making it the perfect place to stay and a great place to relax before and after a busy day exploring the city. (no lift)
Burn Hall Hotel, Huby near York (July/September)
A Victorian manor house hotel, packed full of personality and countryside character. Burn Hall has an outstanding reputation for customer service, you will receive a warm Yorkshire welcome by a professional and friendly team. It also has an excellent menu of homemade Yorkshire dishes, made with locally sourced produce. (lift)
Day One
Depart from your selected joining point and travel to York. Comfort stops will be made en-route.
Day Two
Discover Castle Howard, one of England's grandest Baroque mansions. Set within 1,000 acres of breathtaking landscape, enjoy lavishly decorated rooms, stunning architecture, idyllic gardens and lakeside walks. Continue via Sutton Bank to the traditional market town of Thirsk, home of the famous vet and author James Herriot.
Day Three
Start the day in York with a relaxing cruise along the River Ouse. Within York's towering medieval walls is a heart of rich and colourful character, with its history recorded in the streets, buildings and museums gathered around the mighty Minster. Discover many of the treasures and architectural gems this remarkable city has to offer; its cobbled streets, the famous Shambles and perhaps the National Railway Museum.
Day Four
Explore Heartbeat Country with a wonderful nostalgic trip on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Continue to the historic coastal town of Whitby, with its famous cliff-top Abbey; and the small village of Goathland, which was 'Aidensfield' in the Heartbeat TV series, whilst the railway station was used as 'Hogsmeade' in the Harry Potter films.
Day Five
After breakfast you leave York and travel home. Comfort stops will be made en-route.
