Day One
Depart from your selected joining point and travel to Cumbria. Comfort stops will be made en-route.
Day Two
Muncaster Castle isn't just a historic site - it's a lived-in family home, occupied by the Pennington family for over 800 years. As you explore the grand state rooms, you'll uncover centuries of stories woven into the fabric of this remarkable place. Self-guide through the ground and first-floor state rooms, where stunning paintings, textiles and furnishings bring the past to life. Explore 77 acres of tranquil historic gardens with a blend of cultivated areas, lawns and woodlands, Hawk & Owl Centre, an amazing Weapons Hall and perhaps sample the well-rounded menu prepared by Muncaster's very own Head Chef and team in their cosy courtyard café.
Day Three
Travel to the charming town of Ambleside and the village of Grasmere, celebrated for its connections to William Wordsworth. Don't miss the chance to sample the legendary Grasmere Gingerbread, a local favourite. Continue to the lively market town of Keswick, beautifully set between Skiddaw and Derwentwater. Journey along the scenic shores of Ullswater, the region's second-largest lake, and travel over the breathtaking Kirkstone Pass before returning to your hotel.
Day Four
Take a delightful cruise with commentary along Lake Windermere, followed by free time to wander around Bowness-on-Windermere. Perhaps visit The World of Beatrix Potter, stroll around the lovely shops or simply savour the scenery by the lake. The remainder of the day is free to spend at leisure in Kendal - perhaps take this opportunity to immerse yourself in the town's history. Renowned for its mint cake, it also has two castles, museums, historic buildings and independent shops.
Day Five
After breakfast you leave to start the journey home. Comfort stops will be made en-route.
